Organised Rides

There are lots of organised bike rides available in the UK in the summer months. Here are details of just a few of the ones we plan to takw part in as part of our training for the big ride:

South Herts Bikeathon 2010

Great Kent Cycle Ride

Distance:
Long Route: 60 miles | Short Route: 35 miles

Description

Come and explore a varied landscape of ancient towns, gentle hills and unspoilt shingle beaches – and help to raise vital funds for the Canterbury Oast Trust at the same time!.

With a choice of two circular routes of 35 or 60 miles, this ride takes you over gentle wooded hills through unspoilt countryside to where the Garden of England meets the Sea.

Starting in Ashford, both routes head back in time across Romney Marsh. At Newchurch, the short route follows quiet country lanes through pretty villages, while the long route heads on towards the coast at St. Mary’s Bay and through the open landscape of the Denge and Walland marshes to the ancient ‘smuggler’s capital’ of Rye, bringing you back across the Isle of Oxney through Tenterden.

Long and short routes converge at the Rare Breeds Centre at Woodchurch, where you can take a well-earned break and learn more about the Canterbury Oast Trust’s valuable work.

London Bikeathon 2010

The London Bikeathon is a ride for people of all ages and abilities. Whether you are looking for a fun day out or a challenge, the different routes offer something for everyone to enjoy.

Now in its 14th year, the London Bikeathon is a well established event offering each participant whatever they could want from a day out in the capital.

London to Oxford Cycle Ride

Description

A great Summer’s day cycling from London through the Chilterns to Oxford in aid of CLIC Sargent.

Starting from Walpole Park in Ealing, we stop at Fulmer and Burnham Beeches then have lunch by the river at Marlow before climbing to Christmas Common and Chalgrove on the way to the finish at Oxpens Meadows, where the welcome will include music, refreshments and a beer tent.

Ride It! Hatfield, North London

Description

Some clever route design means we miss all the urban areas and stick mainly to quiet rural roads and lanes. We head north and into the countryside of East Hertfordshire, loop wide around Stevenage before passing Luton and back to the event centre.

New Forest Cycle Ride

Short Route: 18 miles
Medium Route: 28 miles
Long Route: 48 miles

Description

A beautiful ride through the New Forest, helping to raise vital funds for Orchid Cancer Care.

There’s a choice of three routes, all starting and finishing in Brockenhurst. Quiet roads and gentle hills make the shorter rides ideal for families.

Short Route – 18 miles – following forest tracks so nearly all traffic-free. NOT suitable for racing bikes.

Medium route – 28 miles – a gentle route through the woods to Boldrewood and Lyndhurst, then across open heathland to Beaulieu. (all this route is on-road)

Long route – 48 miles – through open heathland, woodland and rhododendrons to Linwood and the attractive Avon Valley before turning back through Bolderwood to Beaulieu on the return route. (all this route is on-road)
